Abstract

1,089,897. Laminates. FIELDCREST MILLS Inc. March 24, 1965 [March 25, 1964], No. 12561/65. Heading B5N. Unwoven material, e.g. for blankets comprises superposed component layers united by needling, each component comprising fibres at least 2¢ inches in length in substantially parallel formation and extending, in adjacent layers, in the direction of the length of the layers, and at right angles thereto respectively. Each component layer may comprise a number of superposed sheets of oriented fibres. One or both faces of the material may have surface layers of carded fibres cross-laid in relation to adjacent components, or of air-laid or other fibres, secured by needling and subsequently napped. Cross-laying of component and surface layers may be effected by cross-lapping (layers 13, 15 and 16, Fig. 5, not shown). The layers may be of rayon or acrylic fibres. The material may be laterally stretched in a tenter frame after the needling and napping slips. Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) illustrate relevant apparatus layouts.
