Abstract

1,089,874. Pneumatic discharge from containers. INTERCONSULT A.B. Oct. 23, 1964 [Oct. 24, 1963], No. 43234/64. Heading B8A. A discharge device for containers 1 of granular material 16 comprises a flexible pervious membrane 6 attached to the sides and bottom of the container and when pressurized by air from pipes 7, a chamber 13 is formed presenting a material supporting surface inclined downwards towards a suction discharge nozzle 3, the membrane 6 allowing air through to fluidize the material thereabove. The membrane 6 constitutes the top wall of a pad, the side and bottom walls being formed by flexible impervious fabric 5, 4 attached to the container 1 by hooks and eyes 10, 11. The centre of the pad is bolted at 12 to the floor of the container under the discharge nozzle opening. The pad follows the contour of the container when deflated. The cross-section of the inflated pad is controlled by gores of flexible pervious fabric connecting the top and bottom of the pad and radiating out from the bolted centre position. In a further embodiment the chamber 13 may be divided into a plurality of individually inflatable cells by means of impervious gores. In the embodiment of Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), the suction discharge nozzle is centrally placed along one side wall of the container. A further means of fastening the pad to the container, Fig. 8 (not shown), comprises peripheral flexible tabs on the side and bottom impervious walls, which are secured into dovetailed metal sections on the side and bottom of the container by further metal inserts. In the embodiment of Fig. 9 (not shown), the upper periphery of the pervious surface (6) is formed as a separate inflatable hoop presenting a pervious surface only to the material. In the embodiment of Figs. 10, 11 the outer ends of the chambers (13) are sealed from the inner ends for independent inflation. In the embodiment of Figs. 12, 13 (not shown) the pervious membrane is sealingly attached directly to the vertically cylindrical material container at its inner and outer peripheries whereby the impervious walls of the pad are dispensed with. In the embodiment of Fig. 14 (not shown), the pervious membrane is bolted at its upper periphery using rubber packing, to the wall of a spherical container and is likewise sealingly secured at its lower periphery to the perimeter of a material discharge pipe. The embodiment of Fig. 18 (not shown) shows an inflatable pad with a lower central aperture through which the material is discharged from a cylindrical silo. Figs. 19, 22 (not shown) show embodiments of a flexible membrane only, and of an inflatable pad, respectively, connected into a horizontal cylindrical container.
