Abstract

1,089,730. Mounting filter element in gas duct. H. KRANTZ VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. Oct. 7, 1966 [Oct. 8, 1965], No. 45020/66. Heading B1T. A replaceable filter element 3, comprising a rigid rectangular frame and sealing gasket 4, is inserted through a sealed side opening into a duct carrying radioactively contaminated gas and subsequently raised axially within the duct to sealingly engage internal peripheral flange 1, 2 of the duct. As shown, the element is received on a support 5 which is then raised by a pair of toggle linkages 8-12 operated by a common U-shaped handle 13. Points 8 are articulated to support 5 and points 10 are supported by the duct or by guide plates 7 secured thereto, through adjustable spring mountings 17-22 which ensure that the element 3 is resiliently urged upwards when toggle linkages 8-12 are set in their extended position just left of 'dead centre'. The sealed side opening of the duct (not shown) comprises an extending flange with means for securing plastic bags thereto, whereby contaminated elements are removed and new elements introduced through plastic bags which are welded off before detaching to eliminate leakage of activity. Figs. 1, 2 (not shown) illustrate a similar arrangement for a primary element, upstream of element 3, in which points 10 may be fixed or adjusted on threaded spindles.
