Abstract

1,088,937. Refilling adapters for gas lighters. PRECISION VALVE CORPORATION. Nov. 11, 1964, No.45887/64 Heading F4F. A refilling adapter for interconnecting a gas, cigar or cigarette lighter burning butane, isobutane or propane or mixtures thereof and a pressurized refill container comprises a head 11 which receives at 12 the tubular valve stem 13 of a refill container, and which includes a rubber or plastic gasket 17 and a slotted nozzle 14, the gas lighter reservoir being sealed to the refill container by the insertion of the refill nozzle 14 into a filling tube 1 which firstly opens the ball valve 7, 8 of the lighter, and then seals the adapter by means of the gasket 17 to a shoulder 5 of the tube 1, being filled with liquefied gas by the pushing of the stem 13 into the refill container and the opening of a valve (not shown) therein thereby, and being vented (indicated by arrows P) by the withdrawal of the nozzle 14 which briefly opens the reservoir to the atmosphere before closing the ball valve 8. The spring pressure of the refill container valve is greater than that of the ball valve 8. The filling tube 1 is threaded internally to receive a closure screw (not shown).
