Abstract

Bricks in radial orientation on a rotary press table 19 are picked up by respective grippers 2. The arrangement is such that as the frame carrying the grippers 2 is lifted, the grippers are rotated both axially and radially about an axis X. Thus four bricks at a time are picked up from the table 19 and are turned into common alignment and on edge on an endless belt 18. The spindle of each gripper 2 is journalled in a frame 1 (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) which is rigid at each end with gears 15, 15<SP>1</SP> carried by respective arms 10, 10<SP>1</SP>. The gear 15, 15<SP>1</SP>, roll on gears 10, 101, rigidly carried by arms 9, 9<SP>1</SP>, which are mounted to form a parallel linkage with the arms 10, 10<SP>1</SP>. The inner ends of the arms 9, 9<SP>1</SP> are telescopically mounted at 16, 161 in relation to the machine frame, and are inwardly urged by springs 17, 17<SP>1</SP>. The effect of the latter connections (together with provision for locking the gears 14, 14<SP>1</SP> and 15, 15<SP>1</SP> for the last 10 degrees of travel of the arms) is to give a final downward movement for placing the bricks on the conveyer without further tilting.
