Abstract

1,087,984. Coating with pre-formed sheets. G. A. BARTH, and K. LOHMANN. Jan. 8, 1965 [Jan. 8, 1964], No. 965/65. Heading B6G. [Also in Division B5] A method of surface finishing or improving comprises bonding to the surface to be finished or improved, using a pressure-sensitive or thermoplastic adhesive, a previously consolidated fibrous fleece provided with decorative effects of the desired surface character while retaining the high surface porosity and fibre structure. A consolidated fibrous fleece is defined as being a fibrous fleece which has been strengthened by joining together the fibres of the fleece, e.g. by needling or impregnation without rendering the fleece non-porous. The fleece is preferably multi-laminated and, if made of cellulose fibres, is consolidated by use of soda-lye, other specified impregnants being natural or synthetic resins or varnishes. Specified substrates are metallized surfaces, paper and cardboard. The decorative effect is preferably a printed wood grain.
