Abstract
1,085,733. Winding and reeling wire. GENERAL CABLE CORPORATION. April 14, 1965, No. 15913/65. Heading B3E. Apparatus for coiling wire to form an annular bundle comprises a rotatable capstan on which the wire is coiled, a rotatable bundle support therebelow and deflector means beneath the capstan to engage the loops falling therefrom to direct them to the support, the deflector means and the support being rotated at slightly differing speeds. Wire is coiled on a capstan 12, rotated by a shaft 22, from which the loops drop, over a radially adjustable eccentric deflector 14 mounted on the capstan 12, on to a bundle support 15. The support 15 is rotated by a shaft 29 extending through the shaft 22 and driven at a slightly different speed therefrom the ratio of the two speeds being adjustable by variable diameter pulley means 39. When the support 15 has been filled further loops from the capstan 12 are temporarily retained by a pivoted member 51, on the capstan 12 and operated by pneumatic cylinder means 53, and the deflector 14. The shaft 29 is raised to disengage the support 15, which is replaced by an empty support. In a modified apparatus, Fig. 4 (not shown), the capstan and the support are driven at the same speed, but the deflector is carried by a support rotated at a different speed.
