Abstract
Rigid polyvinyl chloride is stabilized against light by incorporating therein 0.1 to 2.0 weight per cent, based on the polymer, of each of (a) a phosphoric triamide OP(NR2)3 where R is a C1-6 alkyl group, or two R's on a single nitrogen atom together form a tetra- or penta-methylene or oxydiethylene group; and (b) an ultra-violet stabilizer selected from substituted 2-hydroxy-benzophenones, 2(2-hydroxyphenyl) benzotriazoles, phenolic esters, triazines, benzothiazoles, benzylidene malonic esters and arylaminoethylenes. Many suitable stabilizer components are listed and examples describe the stabilization of rigid polyvinyl chloride containing conventional heat stabilizers such as organotin mercaptides and optionally tridecyl phosphite, and light stabilizers comprising tris-(oxydiethylene) phosphoric triamide or hexamethyl phosphoric triamide; and 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone, 2(2 - hydroxy - 5 - methylphenyl) benzotriazole, N-methyl-p-methoxyanilinomethylenemalonitrile, 2 - (2 - methoxyphenylimino) - 3 - ethyl benzothiazole, diphenylmethylenemalonitrile, 2,4,6 - tris - (2-hydroxy - 4 - octyloxyphenyl) - s - triazine, phenyl salicylate or diethyl p-methoxybenzylidenemalonate.
