Abstract
Methyl chloroform is stabilized against metal catalysed decomposition by the addition thereto of a compound containing the grouping <FORM:1026008/C4-C5/1> where R is an alkyl, aryl, alkylaryl, arylalkyl or cycloalkyl radical. The stabilizer, e.g. b -metoxypropionaldehyde 4-methoxybutanone-2, 4-methyl-4-methoxypentanone-2, 4-methyl-4-ethoxypentanone-2 or the methyl ester of b -methoxypropionic acid, may suitably be used in conjunction with such other known stabilizers as isopropanol, tert. - butanol, 1,4 - dioxane, methyl ethyl ketone or nitromethane, the total amount of stabilizer present being usually 0.1-10%, preferably 0.5-5% by weight.
