Abstract

1,083,958. Knitting machines. SINGER CO. April 25, 1966 [April 26, 1965], No. 17983/66. Heading D1C. A yarn cutting device, for a knitting- machine, comprises a cutter blade vibrated by a piezo-electric crystal and movable relative to a second blade supported at a modal point of the support of the first cutter. The crystal 31, electrically actuated at high frequency, is secured to a rod 28 having a blade 37 at one end. A co-operating blade 39 is fixed at a mode point 41 of the rod. A collar 35 supports the rod in a tube 25, mounted on the machine. The cutter blades are projected into an operative position by a Bowden mechanism; and any needle approaching the cutter at high level strikes a lever 77 which trips a linkage to withdraw the cutter.
