Abstract
1,083,670. Feeding documents. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. Dec. 17, 1965 [Jan. 18, 1965], No. 53613/65. Heading B8S. Documents 74 are discharged oneby-one from the bottom of hopper 75 by the reciprocation of knife carrier 19 operated by bell-crank 9 pivoted at 13 and actuated by follower roller 15 and cam 51. Carrier 19 is pivoted at 20 to said bell-crank 9 and is spring-pressed at 30 against lifting link 34 which is pivoted at 35, articulated at 36, impelled by cam 47 and roller 42, and controlled by bell-crank 63. Bell-crank 63 is operated by solenoid 65, the armature 66 being pivoted at 68. Additionally bell-crank 9 is biased by spring 60 secured at 61 to links 55, 56, pivoted at 58. Operation.-Normally knife carrier 19 does not engage link 34 and therefore reciprocates horizontally beneath hopper 75 without discharging the documents. When, however, solenoid 65 is actuated, bell-crank 63 is moved to the position shown and constitutes a pivot for the link 34. The movement of cam 47 is now transmitted as an up and down movement of link 34 bending between fixed pivots 35 and 39a, by roller 42. Thus carrier 19 is raised at the commencement of a stroke and is lowered at the end of the stroke so that the documents 74 are fed forward to discharge rollers 82, 83 singly from the bottom of the stack. The action of cam 52 complements the action of cam 51 so that rollers 15 and 42 follow closely the cam surfaces 51 and 47.
