Abstract

1,083,390. Pulse modulation circuits; transistor multivibrators. BUNKER-RAMO CORPORATION. Nov. 26, 1965 [Nov. 27, 1964], No. 50423/65. Headings H3T and H4L. The output of a multivibrator is caused to vary over a wide frequency range by the application of a control voltage. The device is described in relation to the numerical control of machine tools and the like. As shown, the free-running multivibrator comprises transistors Q 1 , Q 2 , additional current gain to maintain oscillation at the higher frequencies being provided by complemented emitter follower circuits Q 3 , Q 4 and Q 5 , Q 6 . Associated with capacitors 18, 20 forming part of the respective charging circuits of the multi-vibrator are transistors Q 7 , Q 8 controlled by the input voltage at 10 to vary the time constant of the charging circuits and thus the operating frequency of the multivibrator. A transistor Q 9 is connected in the emitter circuit of transistors Q 7 , Q 8 and normally is forward biased by the output of the multivibrator rectified at D 2 . If oscillations should stop or fail to start, the transistor Q 9 is back-biased, cutting off transistors Q 7 , Q 8 and allowing transistors Q 1 , Q 2 to come out of saturation so that oscillation can begin.
