Abstract
1,090,760. Frequency modulation. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 24, 1965 [April 24, 1964], No. 17071/64. Heading H3R. A frequency modulated phase-shift oscillator comprises two series connected, emitter driven, earthed base transistors VT 1 , VT 2 , each producing a phase-shift of about -45 degrees, the second supplying over a shunt capacitor C 2 , producing a further - 90 degrees phase-shift, a phase inverting transistor amplifier VT 4 with output connected back to the first transistor VT 1 . An emitter follower buffer stage VT 3 may connect VT 2 and VT 4 . Modulation may be applied to the emitter of VT 1 through a transistor amplifier VT 5 whose emitter/base input circuit is shunted by an inductor Z and resistor R 1 in series, to counteract non-linearity in the frequency swing and make it exactly proportional to the change in emitter current of the series transistors VT 1 , VT 2 . Further, the modulation may be applied through a phase splitting transistor VT 6 , with collector circuit feeding VT 5 , and emitter circuit connected through an R.F. choke, parallel resonant at the mean oscillator frequency, to the base of the emitter follower VT 5 so that amplitude modulation is avoided.
