Abstract

1,083,094. Stacks, and stacking apparatus. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. July 12, 1965 [July 10, 1964], No. 29479/65. Heading B8C. [Also in Division B6] Apparatus for placing sheets of paper or other material between sheets of glass requiring to be stacked, comprises means to feed the glass in a horizontal position, means for laying the sheet of paper on the glass and means for applying an electrostatic charge to the sheets for temporarily securing the paper to the glass. Sheets of glass 2 travel along a roller conveyer 1 and below a device providing the paper. This is supported, in web form, on a pair of rollers 14, 15, Fig. 3 (not shown), and is fed through a slot 16 by feed rollers 11, 12 driven by a roller 8 which engages the sheets of glass. The height of the roller 8 is such that it does not rotate and is held by a brake 7 until a sheet of glass is present and such that when the glass has travelled beyond the paper providing device, the falling action of the roller 8 causes a length of paper to be cut off by the blades 22, 17. The electrostatic charge is applied by electrodes 26, 27, the height of the upper electrode being adjusted by electric motors if a detector 28 finds this necessary to accommodate a thick sheet of glass. The glass together with its temporarily attached sheet of paper is swung from its horizontal position on to a rack 4 by a swinging table.
