SANDBERG ETWAL CONVEYING SYSTEM Filed Nov. 29, 1945 MZUZS The frame in also supports a pair of parallel shafts l and It. The shaft l5 supports a series of spaced rollers ll. The shaft it supports an elongated roller I9 which may cooperate with the rollers I! to draw the sheet through the cutting or slitting apparatus, knives l3 and I4.
A track or guide is supported on the frame It, substantially parallel to the axes of the vari-.
ous shafts described. This track or guide 20 acts as a support for the partition forming plates 2| which separate the stacks of blanks. The partition plates 2| are supported by brackets 22 which slidably engage the upper edge of the track or guide 26. The brackets 22 are held in adjusted position by hand adjustedsetscrews 23 or by any suitable clamping apparatus.
The movable conveyor platform D comprises a substantially rectangular frame 24 which.is supported by flanged rollers 25 and 26 mounted upon transversely extending shafts 21 and 29, and supported by suitable bearings such as 30 and 3|, secured to the lower surface of the frame 24. The flanged rollers 25 and 26 are engaged in a pair of parallel tracks 32 which guide the movement of the movable conveyor platform.
A series of upright frame members 40 are adjustably secured to the frame 24 and to the frame 35, to extend upwardly above the level of the partition members 2|. These uprights 46 provide an abutment against which the various sheets may be stacked. The feed rollers I! and I9 feed the sheets through the slitters with some force, and the slit sheets slide into the compartments between adjacent partitions 2|. The movement of the sheets is halted by the upright abutments 40 which hold the sheets in proper stacked formation.
The conveyor platform D is of such a height 7 that it may extend partly under the splitting apparatus of the splitter A. The abutments 40 may be moved with the platform towards or away from the feed rollers l1 and I9 so as to receive sheets of varying lengths. Thus, the position of the platform may be adjusted to suit sheets of varying lengths as well as varying widths. I
In order to move the conveyor platform from one position to another, we provide a reversible electric motor 4| secured to the frame 24-. This motor 4| actuates a belt or chain 42 which connects a pulley or sprocket43 on the motor 4| to a pulley or sprocket 44 on the shaft 21. Accordingly, upon closing the circuit to the motor 4| the chain or belt 42 may operate in either direction to rotate the shaft 21 in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. The platform D may thus be moved into position adjacent the splitter A and beneath the partition plates 2|, or
may be moved into alignment with the conveyor B. 1
The conveyor B may be of any suitable or 1 shafts 50 of these rollers having their support in a vertical flange of each angle member 41. The rollers 49 are freely rotatable to enable the stacks of sheets to be readily moved upon the same.
The conveyor B in preferred form leads to the motor driven conveyor 5| of a blank forming apparatus or similar machine. The blanks are usually individually placed upon the driven conveyor leading to the blank forming machine manually. Thus, as the sheets of each stack are used up by placing the same upon the driven conveyor 5| another stack may be pushed into feeding position.
In the use of our apparatus the movable platform D is placed into position to receive sheets from the splitter A and the'knives of the splitter are adjusted to provide the proper width of sheet. The partition plates 2| are aligned with the knives so as to separate the adjacent stacks of sheets during the stacking operation. These partitions are important, as they prevent the sheets of one stack from becoming interleaved with the sheets of an adjacent stack.
When stacks of the proper height are attained, the movable platform D is moved into alignment with the conveyor B leading to the blank forming machine C. Movement of the platform is accomplished by closing the circuit to the drive motor 4!. When the movable conveyor section is aligned with the conveyor B the stacks of sheets may be easily pushed onto the conveyor B. The movable platform D may then be returned into its position in close proximity with the slitter A to receive more sheets.
