A rotary duplicating machine, Fig. 1, suitable for printing selected lines or sections from a master sheet carried by a printing cylinder 11 on to copy sheets fed from a feed table 15 to the line of printing 16 comprises a counterpressure or impression assembly 17 provided with a plurality of teeth 33-38 adapted to co-operate selectively with the teeth of a gearwheel 39, arranged. to drive the cylinder 11, so that the pressure bar associated with the tooth engaged by the wheel 39 is rotated through the line 16 at the same peripheral speed as the cylinder 11. The wheel 39 has a tooth corresponding to each possible line of printing on the master sheet. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 the teeth 33-35 are associated with pressure bars 21-23 in an assembly 18 provided with means to initiate its movement, said means including a stepping mechanism 42. controlled by a solenoid 52. The teeth 36-38 are associated with pressure bars 26-28 in an assembly 19, the bars of which co-operate with the master alternately with those of the assembly 18. The assembly 19 is-similarly provided with a stepping mechanism 43 and a solenoid 49, both said solenoids being- energized according to the selected circuit of a rotary switch, Fig. 5 (not shown). In the embodiment of Fig. 12 (not shown) the counter-pressure assembly including the two sets of pressure bars is eccentrically mounted and is pivoted into a tooth-engagement printing position by means of a linkage acting on eccentric pins and actuated by solenoid or cam means. In a further embodiment, Fig. 7, four separate pressure bars 101-104 are mounted on the radial extensions of ferromagnetic flanges 106-109, and two permanently magnetized discs 112, 113 are secured to a sleeve 111 which is rotated by a belt which also drives the printing cylinder. Eachbar is provided with a tooth, Fig. 6 (not shown), arranged to cooperate with the teeth on a wheel mounted coaxially with the printing cylinder. The bars are held against rotation, caused by eddy currents, by a pawl, Fig. 6 (not shown), which is released on energization of a solenoid controlled by a switch arrangement according to the setting of selected switches. At the printing position the bars are forced into cooperation with the cylinder by a rubber counterpressure roller 123. The drive element of each pressure bar may be in the form of a roller instead of a tooth.
