Abstract

1,081,719. Electric correspondence control systems. SIEMENS A. G. Nov. 13, 1964 [Nov. 15, 1963], No.46426/64. Heading G1N. Also in Division F4] The quantity of blast gas fed to the hot blast stoves of a blast furnace installation is controlled to enable a desired amount of thermal energy to be carried to the furnace, during each cycle. As shown (Fig. 1), a first computer R2 establishes the maximum volume of blast gas (Qt)s required to supply the desired thermal energy per cycle based on predetermined values of the factors involved, e. g. calorific value of combustion gas, stove efficiency, etc. A second computer R1 determines the actual thermal energy Q 0 taken up by the blast gas in a stove and available for heating in the furnace, based on the temperature rise, volume, &c. of the blast gas passing through a stove. The figure (Qt) n-1 representing the volume of combustion gas used in the last cycle is stored at Sp 1 and combined at VR with (Qt) s and Q 0 to determine the thermal energy Q n to be supplied in the current cycle. The figure Q n is measured by counter Z 1 and stored at Sp 2 for use in the next cycle. The value of Q n may alternatively be based on the temperature TA of the hot blast gas when leaving the stove.
