Abstract
A solid or liquid phosphor composition, e.g. a daylight luminescent paint fluorescing yellow green, comprises the compound 1,8-naphthoylene -11,21-benzimidazole of formula <FORM:1081677/C4-C5/1> as active ingredient. The compound may also be used for detecting defects by luminescent methods (e.g. cracks and surface splits) or in "labelling" grains of sand. It may be dissolved in dichloroethane, benzene or dioxane, or used as a powder.ALSO:The compound 1,81-naphthoylene-11,21 -benzimidazole of formula <FORM:1081677/C2/1> is made by reaction of equimolar quantities of naphthalic anhydride with o-phenylene diamine in acetic acid. The compound is luminescent, and may be used in compositions as the active ingredient (see Division C4).
