Abstract
A refractory material is formed of synthetic mullite prepared by calcining at at least 1500 DEG C. an intimate mixture of alumina and aluminium silicate, such as kyanite or sillimanite, bonded by an organic silicon compound, preferably ethyl silicate, the ingredients being in such proportions that the ratio of alumina to silica is 72-78 : 28-22.ALSO:A refractory material is formed of synthetic mullite prepared by calcining at at least 1500 DEG C. an intimate mixture of alumina and aluminium silicate, such as kyanite or sillimanite, bonded by an organic silicon compound, preferably ethyl silicate, the ingredients being in such proportions that the ratio of alumina to silica is 72-78 : 28-22.
