Abstract

1,081,666. Sheet stacking apparatus. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT GOBAIN. March 29, 1966 [March 29, 1965], No. 13793/66. Heading B6H. Glass sheets delivered by a roller conveyer 2 (Fig. 1) on to a tilting table 4, provided with a number of supporting rollers 33 (Fig. 3) and a pair of abutments 5 against which the leading edge of the sheets is temporarily arrested. are stacked on to stand 8 in inclined, face-to-face relationship by pivoting the table 4 from the horizontal position into an almost vertical position and moving the table forwardly towards the stand 8 until rollers 11 on the abutments 5 come into contact with the surface of the last stacked sheet 1 (Fig. 3). Continued pivoting of the table causes the leading edge of the sheet to contact the surface of the last stacked sheet, whereby the combined pivotal movement of the table and weight of the sheet abutting against the abutments 5 causes the latter to move arcuately in slots 14 distending springs 25 and moving between the steadies (not shown) on the stand below the plane of the stacked sheet edges to deposit the sheet, which is now in surface contact with the last stacked sheet, on the steadies. Action of springs 25 subsequently returns the abutments to their original position in the slots 13. Surfaces of rollers 11 and abutments 5 are covered with rubber.
