Abstract

1,081,642. Two-part couplings. UNITEDCARR. Inc. Jan. 14, 1966 [Jan. 15, 1965], No. 1900/66. Heading H2E. An edge connector comprises a resilient insulating body 14, having a contact-carrying aperture, and a surrounding jacket 12 which flexes opposite body walls inwards to grip a printed circuit board inserted in the aperture (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). The body 14 and the jacket 12 may each be formed from two L- shaped parts fastened together by pins 42 to form rectangular members (Fig. 9, not shown) and the longer body walls can be pushed apart, for insertion of the board, by a tool (Fig. 5, not shown) placed behind ears 35 which project from the longer jacket walls. Uniform pressure along the board is achieved by silicone rubber pads 34 located along the walls of the aperture and by U-shaped cut-out portions 50 at each end of the longer jacket walls. The connector is provided with guides 17 and 18 which also support the board and ensure its correct insertion, and with projections 22 and 24 for mounting it on a support.
