Abstract

1,081,489. Bells. THOMAS ASHWORTH & CO. Ltd. June 3, 1964 [Dec. 20, 1963], No. 50516/63. Heading G5J. A fire-alarm bell comprises a cast dome 12 in which are fixed an outside knob 21 and an inside spindle 14, the latter engaging in a bearing hole in a three-armed cast spider base 10. Cast protuberances are provided inside the rim of the dome 12 which strike against a loosely mounted roller 24 when the knob 21 is rotated by hand, and cause sound to be emitted. The roller 24 is carried on a pin 23 and its motion is limited by a stop 27. The arm of the base which carries the roller is distinctively shaped or marked and is arranged symmetrically below the other arms when mounting the bell on a vertical surface (Fig. 1, not shown). The weight of the knob (21) returns the dome (12) after use to a position where the internal protuberances (26) are evenly disposed away from the roller (24) and a cast word " FIRE " is upright. An arrangement is also described in which a striker is mounted on an arm rotatable about an axis parallel to that of the dome.
