Abstract

108,119. Rath, A. J. Jan. 16, 1917 Rod couplings and joints.-In a joint for connecting two rods, levers, or similar members, one member A is provided with a recess spherical in the interior D but cut away at opposite sides E of one or both faces leaving straight edges F at the other two sides, and the other member J is connected by means of a bolt L to a ball G having a central bolt-hole H terminating in flattened ends I, the joint being effected by sliding the ball into the recess with the flats F. I opposed and then rotating the ball through 40 degrees about an axis at right-angles to the bolt-hole H prior to passing the bolt L through the ball. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the rods N, N con. nected to the members A, J do not form a straight run, but, by forking one member J, a straight run may be obtained. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 7739/01, [Class 80, Mechanism &c.], and 5231/07.
