Abstract

1,081,196. Transmission line arrangements; converting. D. J. MILLER. July 20, 1966 [July 30, 1965; Oct. 4, 1965], Nos. 32723/65 and 41944/65. Headings H2F and H2H. In a high voltage D.C. system, each pole of a transmission circuit is divided into at least two separate insulated conductors connected together only at terminal or intermediate stations by means of a switch in each conductor, so that conductors may be isolated under fault conditions. Earthing switches may be also provided. Capacitors may be alternatively connected between conductors or between conductors and earth, which together with the reactance of the line form an oscillatory circuit to aid arc quenching at the switches. These capacitors may form part of harmonic filters or surge suppressors. The switches may be single pole automatic circuit breakers similar to those employed on A.C. systems.
