Abstract

1,080,887. Lasers. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. July 1, 1966 [July 2, 1965], No. 29759/66. Heading H1C. [Also in Division F4] A burner 3 for heavy oil is ignited by a strongly concentrated beam of radiation, in the visible spectral region, from a laser head 6 and lens 7 with a displaceable protective diaphragm 8 carried in a tube 5 secured in a passage 4 in the wall 1 of a heater. The laser head contains a ruby laser crystal 9 and, as a source of excitation energy, a flashlamp 10 ignited by an ignition coil 11 and condenser battery 12. Alternatively a neodymium glass or semi-conductor injection laser may be used and the radiation may be outside the visible spectral region.
