Abstract

1429941 Lasers SHIP SYSTEMS Inc 2 Jan 1973 [3 Jan 1972] 179/73 Heading H1C [Also in Divisions F3 and H4] An argon-ion laser for simultaneously transmitting information to a projectile at three separate wavelengths comprises an air-cooled quartz tube 3, a gas reservoir 2, an R.F. coil 8 for ionization of the gas, a hot cathode 4 emitting electrons to an anode 5, confocal optical resonators 6 and an end window at a Brewster angle 7. The beam from the laser is electrically pulsed or is pulsed by passage through sectored filter discs 9. After passing through a rectangular aperture 27, the beam is optionally expanded to increase its long dimension and is passed through rotating dove prisms 28, 25 or mirror arrays to impart rotation to the beam. The spectral output of the laser is as follows: The wavelengths 5145 Š, 4965 Š, and 4880 Š are used for transmitting the information.
