Abstract

1,079,851. Two part couplings. PAINTON & CO. Ltd. March 18, 1964 [March 19, 1963], No. 10892/63. Heading H2E. A contact unit 7 is formed by a springy first part 18 of beryllium copper having a contact spring 22 and tag 6, and a second part 21 of stiffer material, such as stainless steel, with a cranked end 27 to allow release of the unit by operation of the actuator 28. The lower part 27 of strip 25, Fig. 3 (not shown) is of reduced width so that the upper portion is prevented from being removed by shoulders (26) engaging protuberances (19) on the body 1. After actuator 28 has been pressed towards tag 6, the unit may be withdrawn, the surface 17 guiding the end of the contact to pass out through opening 14. In a further embodiment for receiving the pins of a plug member, Fig. 5 (not shown), the body (40) has contact entry apertures (41) leading into cavities (42) having abutments (46) and near their bases a groove (48) and recess (49). The contact units comprise a contact clip (50) made of a single strip of phosphor bronze into which is inserted a stainless steel former spring split into two parts (69) and having a ledge (66) and a tab (64) extending from one of the split parts. On insertion of the contact unit into the cavity (42), as the shoulders 53 abut against projection (46) of the body the ledge (66) snaps over an internal projection (48). The contact unit may be released by the tab (64).
