Abstract

1,079,806. Drawing; extruding. CERRO CORPORATION. Oct. 8, 1964 [Feb. 4, 1964], No. 41125/64. Heading B3P. A die-holder for tube or wire drawing comprises a housing block having a spherical recess, a ball-shaped member in the recess, dies mounted in the ball-shaped member and means for facilitating universal movement of the member in the recess, said means comprising a hollow hemi-spherical cage between the ball and the wall of the recess, the cage having a multiplicity of radially-extending openings and bearing balls, in said openings, which roll on the wall of the recess and the ball-shaped member. The housing block 6 is mounted by trunnions 10 in electrically insulative bushes 5 supported in brackets 1 and 2 which form part of a drawing machine. In the housing block is a cylindrical bore 7 leading to a hemispherical recess 8. A ball-shaped member 11 is disposed in the recess 8 and between the wall of the recess and the member 11 are a plurality of balls 35 which are positioned by a hemi-spherical cage 33. The ball-shaped member 11 is retained by an annular member 12 which has a conical surface 15 and is secured to the housing block 6 by screws 14. A diametral bore 16 in the ball-shaped member 11 is counter-bored at 17 to receive two die casings 18 and 19 which are spaced by a ring 25. Die nibs 20 and 21 are mounted in the casings. The material being drawn passes through the dies from left to right as seen in Fig. 2. The ring 25 has radial apertures through which lubricant is supplied to the dies.
