Abstract

1,161,244. Bearings. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. 20 Sept., 1966 [21 Sept., 1965], No. 41905/66. Heading F2A. [Also in Division H2] In a self-aligning bearing, a bush 7, Fig. 2, has a part-spherical surface, is received in a complementary recess of a supporting shell 20, and is retained therein by a sleeve 21 of synthetic plastics material. The sleeve 21 has a collar 26, the inside diameter of which is smaller than the greatest diameter of the bush 7; may be moulded in situ so as to mount the shell 20 in a support 9; or may be an independent member which is forced into an aperture in the support 9. The collar 26 is provided with an annular groove 28, Fig. 3, and equi-spaced slits 27 which increase its elasticity and allow it to be forced over the bush 7. After the collar has been distended, the portions thereof spring back and engage the part-spherical surface of the bush 7 and thus retain it in the shell 20. In modifications, both the shell 20 and the sleeve may be integral and made from synthetic plastics material; and a metallic thrust plate may be provided to receive axial forces from a shaft mounted in the bearing.
