Abstract

1,078,508. Magnetrons. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. March 11, 1966 [Aug. 9, 1965], No. 33991/65. Heading H1D. Each strap of a strapped magnetron includes a plurality of discrete surfaces, e.g. teeth, which co-operate to provide a plurality of inter-strap capacitances distributed along the strap lengths, a rotor having a plurality of discrete conductive parts being arranged such that, upon rotation, the parts in turn traverse the dielectric spaces of the capacitances, thereby permitting a high rate of cyclic frequency tuning. In one embodiment the straps (6, 8, Fig. 1, not shown), are connected to a pair of spaced discs (7, 9) lying in planes perpendicular to the magnetron axis, and having axially projecting teeth (10, 11), the rotor (12) lying between the two discs and having a corresponding set of teeth (13) projecting from each face. In another embodiment (Figs. 2, 3 and 4, not shown), the straps (17, 19) extend axially and have radially projecting teeth (10<SP>1</SP>, 11<SP>1</SP>), the end of a cylindrical rotor (112) having a circumferential array of axial slot apertures (13<SP>1</SP>) projecting between the two straps. The rotor may be rotated magnetically, and the opposite end of the anode block may be provided with a normal strap system.
