Abstract
1,078,147. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. INSTRON CORPORATION. Oct. 14, 1965 [Oct. 19, 1964], No. 43687/65. Heading G3P. An extensometer comprises clamp arms 78, 80 which receive the specimen each arm being connected by a blade spring, between parts 38, 40 and 34, 36, to a piston member 18. Fluid from a single source is fed through passages 102, 106 to adjustable throttle valves 108, 118 and thence through passages 110, 120 to chambers 122, 112 on opposite sides of the piston. The chamber 112 is also connected through passage 114 and valve 116 to a chamber 117 to act on the upper side of the piston so that the effective upper face of the piston is larger than the lower face. The pressure in chamber 112 is controlled by a leak-off valve 26 carried by the piston member and loaded by a blade spring 28 into contact with the clamp arm 78 thus the piston member 18 assumes a position relative to the position of the clamp arm when the fluid-pressure forces on the piston are balanced. The two pistons act through rods 58, 60 on a transformer 56 to provide an indication of the size of the specimen between the clamps.
