[Also in Division H2] In a system wherein the speed of an electric motor 1, 2, 3 is controlled in dependence on its back e. m.f. by adjustment of the firing angle of a thyristor 6, triggering is effected by a circuit including a diode 12 shunted by a capacitor 14 in series with a theostat 13, by which the speed is set, the supply 4, 5 being A. C. or unsmoothed, rectified A.C. The time constant of 13, 14 is such that firing angles greater than 90‹ can be achieved, for slow speed running. The thyristor may be shorted by a switch 7 for maximum, uncontrolled speed, and for voltage stabilization of the trigger circuit there may be a resistor 15 and a voltage dependent resistor or Zener diode 16. In alternative arrangements the motor fields 2, 3 are connected on the supply side of the thyristor.
