Abstract
A water-soluble monoazo dye of the formula <FORM:1077558/C4-C5/1> is obtained by esterifying a dye of the formula <FORM:1077558/C4-C5/2> at an elevated temperature with amidosulphonic acid in the presence of an inert organic solvent. The esterification temperature is suitably above 60 DEG C. Suitable solvents are dimethylformamide, dimethylsulphoxide, quinoline, N,N-dimethylaniline, pyridine, picoline or butidine and mixtures thereof. An example is given.
