Abstract

1,077,373. Solid fuel boiler furnaces and stores. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. March 13, 1964 [March 15, 1963], No. 10334/63. Headings F4B and F4W. Fuel, particularly bituminous coal, is fed from a hopper A by gravity between water-cooled walls B to a carbonization zone between refractory extensions C of the walls B and to a combustion zone below the extensions C. Air is admitted from a ring D at the top of the extensions C so that the coke formed in this zone is burnt away and does not stick to the refractory walls. Coke falling to a grate G is burnt with air supplied below the grate, and additional air supply rings E, J complete the combustion of the gases formed in an annular combustion chamber between the water walls B of the fuel tube and the outer water walls H of the furnace. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the burning gases pass over baffles in a combustion chamber behind the fuel tube, and sweep heat exchange tubes before passing to the flue.
