Abstract

In an induction coupling having coupling halves which are not supported axially against each other and are mutually separated only by a cylindrical air gap s, one coupling half 1 carries energizing coils 2 providing a radially directed magnetic field which co-operates with a surrounding concentric magnetizable ring 4 forming with a single supporting end disc 5 the other coupling half, the end disc 5 except for a hub 6 is entirely of non-magnetizable material, and the periphery of part of the coils is immediately adjacent the end disc 5. The halves are overhung from rotary shaft ends of machines to be coupled, and slip-rings 7, 8 supply current to the coils.
