Abstract

1,076,882. Animal feeding apparatus. N. McLINTOCK and W. H. BYROM. Aug. 31, 1965 [Sept. 5, 1964 (2)], Nos. 36481/64 and 36482/64. Heading A1M. [Also in Division F2] Feed is dispensed to animals particularly pigs through a valve 14 comprising a valve body 20 having a flow bore 34, a vertical valve passage 21 and a horizontal throughbore 22 within which is a valve member capable of being moved by means of a hinged nose plate 38 to bring opening 31 into register with passage 21 and flow bore 34 to dispense feed into a trough. The valve member is in four integral sections viz. a cylindrical rod 27 which contacts the nose plate, and cylinders 29, 30 connected by a part of reduced diameter defining opening 31. A spring 32 returns the valve member to a valve closing position. The valve is located in a feed pipe line 11 through which feed is pumped from a mixer tank 10 receiving metered amounts of water and dry feed and containing a mixing device for producing a slurry-like feed. The feeding troughs 13 are semicircular in cross-section and have sloping walls to restrain animals from soiling the troughs and partitions to prevent animals standing in the troughs. A rotary valve member may be used and the valve actuating mechanism then includes a rack and gear wheel.
