Abstract
<PICT:1076297/C6-C7/1> A vaporizer filament comprises a wire bent to form a double helix 4, 5 with a cross-over 6 at one end and shoulders 7 and 8 at the other end, the ends of the wire being then bent away from the helix to provide leads 9 and 10. Material to be vaporized is formed into a sleeve, which is supported on the shoulders 7 and 8, or a cap which is additionally supported by the cross-over 6. The wire, which may be single or multiple strand, is preferably of tungsten when vaporizing aluminium, e.g. in aluminizing a cathode ray tube, or of molybdenum when vaporizing silver. Nickel-chromium alloys may be vaporized by such filaments in the production of resistors. A method of forming the double helix is described (see Division B3).
