In a method of balancing a watch or clock balance wheel, the wheel is mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis and allowed to oscillate to an equilibrium rest position at which a test unbalance weight correction U 1 is applied to it on a radius at an angle O# α < 90‹ to the horizontal, the balance wheel is then allowed to oscillate to a second equilibrium rest position at which is noted the angular position y to the vertical, and at which there is applied on the resultant vertical centre of gravity line a further unbalance weight correction U 2 determined by one of the formulae unbalance weight correction U 1 adds to the weight of the lower half of the wheel in its first equilibrium rest position.
