Abstract

1,075,833. Feeding webs. U.S. PARTITION & PACKAGING CORPORATION. April 30, 1965 [May 28, 1964], No. 18266/65. Heading B6B. A web 55 passing over a support plate 24, Fig. 5, is tensioned by a pressure foot 42, mounted for vertical movement and loaded by a pneumatic cylinder 32. The pneumatic pressure is varied with a valve, 38, 37, Fig. 1 (not shown). Resilient runners or hold-down straps 54 are adjustably mounted on a rod 50 extending transversely of the web 55. When the web width is within the width of the pressure foot 42, the runners 54 are interposed between the foot and the web, but when the web width exceeds the width of the foot, the runners are positioned outside the foot to stop the web edges curling. Transverse registering guides 56, Figs. 2 and 11 (not shown), are adjustably positioned on the support plate 24. Horizontal movement of the pressure foot 42 in the direction of travel of the web is prevented by rollers 46 attached thereto, Fig. 2 (not shown), which rollers engage vertical surfaces 48 attached indirectly to the support plate 24.
