Abstract

1,075,828. Sealing the necks of bags and tubes by deformable clips. RHEEM MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 26, 1964 [Sept. 11, 1964], No. 48145/64. Heading B8C. A clip (Fig. 1) is deformed about the neck of a bag or of a tube (Fig. 5, not shown) by means of a punch member 7 which contacts the crown 3 of the clip at spaced apart pressure points 13, 14 and a die 18 which has two parallel grooves (19) and (20) (Fig. 2, not shown): the punch 7 has a groove 8 which allows the crown 3 of the clip to bow outwardly as the clip is deformed. The width w of the clip may be from 60 to 70 times the cross-sectional area of the wire of the clip, and the distance 8 between the pressure points 13 and 14 may be equal to two thirds of the distance w.
