Abstract

107,485. Preston, J. E. Sept. 22, 1916. Cells.-In a cell of the type in which the electrodes 6, 12 are carried by a cover-plate 3 having a rubber ring 2 to form a tight closure, a conical projection 17 is provided on the plate 3 to cause the ring 2 to be compressed laterally against the interior of the neck of the cell 1 before being subjected to vertical compression. Both compressions are produced by rotation of a nut 7 on a screwed sleeve 4 fixed at its lower end in a metal head 5 to which the electrode 6 is secured. The electrode 12 is carried by a screwed stem 13 which passes through an insulating sleeve 8 and carries a nut 14. A washer 15 limits the movement of the nut 7. In a modification, the conical projection 17 is formed as a part of the member 5 and enters the lower aperture of the ring 2. The cover 3 is in this case a flat plate.
