Abstract

1,074,784. Sizing and re-shaping lids. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Nov. 29, 1965 [March 9, 1965], No. 10025/65. Heading B3Q. [Also in Division B8] The sheet metal lever lid of a container (see Division B8) is re-formed to eliminate a vent channel provided by at least one indentation (8), Fig. 4 (not shown), in the plug portion of the lid. The lid is re-formed by an annular tool 13 carried by a platen 11 and movable in a ring 15 supported initially on a shoulder 16 of the tool. A spigot 12 enables the platen to be connected to a reciprocable plunger forming part of a closing press. As the platen moves down, a lip 21 engages a peripheral flange 6 on the lid to insert it in the container. When the ring 15 is arrested the platen continues downward, thereby causing a pad 18 to flex the centre panel 5 of the lid to expel more air from the container before the tool 13 removes the indentations 8 in the lid.
