Abstract

Fluorocarbon waxes are obtained by heating polytetrafluoroethylene in a reaction zone at a temperature of between 325 DEG and 450 DEG C. under subatmospheric or atmospheric pressure, conducting the evolving gases away from the reaction zone, cooling these gases, and condensing them. The waxes obtained by pyrolysis of the polymer at atmospheric pressure have a melting point of from 270 DEG to 277 DEG C. while those obtained at subatmospheric pressure have a melting point of from 220 DEG to 228 DEG C.
