Abstract

Prior to separating phosgene from hydrogen chloride in wet gas mixtures comprising these gases by condensation, water is removed by contacting with a drying agent. Specified drying agents are silica gel, phosphorus pentoxide and, preferably, anhydrous calcium sulphate. The original gas mixture may be obtained from a phosgenation reaction, and drying prevents blockage occurring in the condenser.
