Abstract

The invention comprises 5,8-diamino-1,4-hydroxy-anthraquinone compounds which are substituted in the 2-position by a chlorine atom or by a p-phenolic or p-phenolic alkyl ether group and which compounds may be monosubstituted in the amino groups by alkyl or aryl radicals. The dyes are obtained by treating the diamino-dihydroxy-anthraquinone in sulphuric acid solution or suspension in presence of an oxidizing agent to produce the corresponding di-imine compound which is then treated with HCl or phenol or a phenolic alkyl ether under the same conditions after which reduction to the diamino compound, if necessary, is preferably effected using sodium bisulphite. The dyes may contain sulphonic acid groups, and provide blue-green shades. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 834,518.ALSO:5,8-diamino - 14,-dihydroxy-anthraquinones which are substituted in the 2-position by a chlorine atom or a phenolic or alkyl phenyl ether group and which may be substituted in one or both amino groups by alkyl or aryl groups are used to dye polyesters, polyamides of triacetate when no sulpho group is present and for wool when a sulpho group is present. In Example 1 polyester fibres are dyed at 96-98 DEG C. with a dye of the above type to give a green-blue shade. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 834,518.
