Abstract

1,072,891. Laminates. PRECISION RUBBERS Ltd. Jan. 13, 1965 [Feb. 1, 1964], No. 4369/64. Heading B5N. A sealing strip, e.g. for sealing windows &c. of aircraft subject to extremes of temperature, comprises a strip of silicone rubber bonded by a silicone rubber adhesive to a fabric strip which itself carries a pressure-sensitive silicone adhe sive protection by a strippable layer of fabric or film. The fabric strip may be woven or knitted and of glass fibre, nylon or terephthalate polyester fibres, or of unwoven bonded polyester fibres. The strippable layer may comprise a polyester terephthalate fibre. The fabric is first primed with a silicone resin or a hydrolysable silane composition and is then coated on both sides, or on that side to receive the silicone rubber strip, with a silicone rubber in solution or paste form and heat-treated. A layer of silicone rubber is then rolled on or otherwise applied and the product press-cured for 15 minutes at 120‹ C. and oven-cured for 18 hours at 150‹ C. Cross-sectional shapes of strip having a single triangular bead or two beads, with or without intervening drainage channels are described. Strips may be made in multiple widths finally longitudinally divided.
