Abstract

A level or height indicator comprises a flexible sac housed inside a rigid casing 1 perforated with holes 9 so that external pressure is communicated to the sac, a tube 7 connecting the sac to a bellows 13 in a pressure gauge 12 to form an enclosed system which is filled with water, the arrangement being such that changes in the height of the sac with respect to the pressure gauge causes a change in the reading of the gauge 12. The indicator is described as for use in determining changes in height between the ends of a run of piping, and a rod 10 is provided to which other suitable rods of known lengths may be attached in series, to enable the casing 1 to be introduced into the pipe. The slope of the run of piping may be found from the gauge reading and the rod lengths. The bellows 13 in the gauge drives a gear system 14 coupled to an indicating needle 15. Zero adjustment is provided by a knob 17. A pot 20 and control cock 19 are provided to enable water to be introduced into the closed system. The whole is mounted on a board having racks 21, 22 for the tube 7 and clips 24 for the casing 1.
