Abstract

107,225. Evans, W. E., (Luke, F. H., and Millar, C. R.). June 16, 1916. Lift valves; closure members; spindles.-A lift valve has the closure members so constructed that, in closing, a volume of liquid is trapped in a space, the outlet from which is gradually contracted, so as to cause the valve member to seat quietly. The valve member has a conical face c' adapted to engage a seat c formed on the casing, a cylindrical part c<2> adapted to engage a cylindrical recess b as the valve closes and a tapered extension c<3> adapted to close gradually the passage d leading from the chamber b to the outlet. The lower part of the valve spindle is enlarged and is provided with a groove adapted to receive semicircular parts on two cross-bars f. These cross-bars are adapted to be secured by a screwed actuating nozzle i in recesses formed in the lower end of a tubular member g adapted to slide in an annular groove h formed in the casing.
