1,071,798. Determining density. G.E.C. COMPUTERS & AUTOMATION Ltd. Oct. 14, 1965 [Oct. 14, 1964], No. 41930/64. Heading G1S. A method and apparatus for determining the density of a fluid material comprises supplying the fluid material to a container 1 and measuring the pressure exerted by the material at a predetermined point in said container by means of a device 7. Means in the form of two electrodes 8 are provided at the top of the container to give an indication when the material under test has reached a predetermined height. In the embodiment shown, the container 1 has a discharge hole 2 which is provided with a plug 3. An overflow channel 6 extends along the outside of the container 1 to communicate with a feed away pipe 5 as does the discharge hole 2. When the upper surface of the material under test contacts the electrodes 8 a switch is operated which controls the pressure recording instrument so as to lock the reading thereon at that time. The switch may also be used to control the linkage 4 to open the discharge hole.
