A detecting probe for a liquid level apparatus is formed by one end of a flexible component depending from a support so that the probe can yield to horizontal movement of the holder 1. In an electrical arrangement the probe 1 is serially connected to a relay 9, 11 controlling the admission of liquid through a valve 12, 13. The probe 3 may be alternatively of pneumatic type.
